Kathryn Dick

I am a highly experienced leader of students and teachers. I have over 20 years of curriculum leadership experience at Otago Girls' High School and in the wider education community of New Zealand. I am excited about bringing my wealth of skills and my continued passion for young women's education to a new position and a greater level of responsibility.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

My Roles & Responsibilities

HEAD OF THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT.

1997 - 2004

Otago Girls' High School

In my leadership of this department I led the teachers of The Arts in implementing and embedding what was then, a new Curriculum document. I have been a teacher of Drama and Public Speaking.  I continue to enjoy leadership roles within the Arts environment through producing the traditional Celebration service and have done so for 20 years as well as writing, directing and producing the annual Junior Production.

HEAD OF THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

2005 - 2020

Otago Girls' High School

Leading the English department has given me the opportunity to nurture and support young and experienced staff to reach their potential, to challenge and excite our Ākonga and to work in a pastoral and professional capacity. The English department is a high functioning and hugely successful curriculum area. My passion for innovation and collaboration is key to who I am as a leader of people.

I have a thorough knowledge and appreciation of standards based assessment in English at a national level. I have over 20 years experience on English External marking panels and over ten years leadership experience on NCEA examination writing teams.  I am currently working on a number of contracts for the authority. Through this extensive relationship I am well placed to assist in bringing in the NCEA Change Package.

ACTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

2011 TERM 2

2013 TERM 3 AND 4

OTAGO GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

I have had experience in the Senior Leadership Team at OGHS  with several roles including taking on Day Relief for extended periods of time.  I have enjoyed the confidence of the Senior Leadership Team to manage the school for days at a time and this has been something I have done since before 2011.  In 2017 my relief role saw me providing staff with relief at a moment's notice, often managing huge numbers of staff relief weeks in advance. At all times I establish and maintain positive relationships with both staff and day-relievers alike.
